Hi,

my name is Darren Ho. I am 21 years old and currently completing my fourth and final year in Chemical Engineer at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

I initially chose to study chemical engineering on the basis of my love for chemistry, processes and innovation. When I started my first year of studies, I was not aware of the many different facets of chemical engineering. As the years have progressed, I see myself leaning towards the sustainable innovation and production of everyday consumer goods in the fast moving consumer goods industry.

I was delighted to learn that a big sector of chemical engineering consisted of the food and beverage industry as one of my biggest passions in life is cooking. I plan to obtain a Patisserie Diploma sometime after my studies and link this with the skills and knowledge that I have learnt from Chemical Engineering. These two passions, engineering and patisserie, may seem odd and unconventional to combine but I don't see myself as a conventional Engineer. I see myself as a risk taker who isn't afraid of experimenting and challenging the norm.

When I am not in the kitchen or practising engineering you will be able to find me playing the piano or the guitar, hiking or travelling with a camera in hand or in a quiet place, drinking a cappuccino and reading a book.
